The Camera Trick by Matthew Wright

The Camera Trick by Matthew Wright brings digital and physical magic together in a routine where what your spectators see on your phone appears to become reality in their hands. A signed playing card is viewed through your phone's camera, and the screen seemingly sees straight through the back to reveal its face—but that's only the beginning.

As the routine unfolds, the card displayed on screen visibly changes into another selection before the technology appears to malfunction. The image glitches and freezes between two cards, leaving a bizarre digital misprint on the screen. When the spectator's signed physical card is turned over, impossibly, it has become the same jumbled misprint.

Digital Meets Physical Magic: On-screen animations appear to produce impossible changes to real, signed playing cards.

Multiple Performance Possibilities: Matthew Wright's routine can be presented as two separate effects or combined into a longer routine.

Memorable Visual Finale: A King of Hearts seen through the phone removes the sword from his head and uses it to rearrange heart pips into a Four of Hearts—then the signed physical card reveals the same impossible image.

Accessible Performance: Designed to be easy to perform and suitable for all skill levels while delivering a polished, professional-style presentation.

Developed by Matthew Wright: The routine was developed over more than three years and integrates physical magic with Matthew Wright's CTRL'D App.

Important Compatibility Note: The Camera Trick utilizes Matthew Wright's CTRL'D App. The supplied product information states that the app is currently available for iOS only, with an Android version planned for the future.

The Camera Trick gives close-up magicians a distinctly modern piece of visual magic while keeping the spectator's signed card at the center of the experience. The combination of animation, apparent technological failure and an impossible physical revelation creates a routine that moves beyond the phone screen and finishes with something your audience can see in the real world.
